Biorefining Legal Counsel (m/f/d)
We're looking for a Legal Counsel (m/f/d) to join our Biorefining Legal team at UPM. You have a great long-term interest in growing within the company and scaling up its key business initiatives, in particular UPM Biorefining and Technology. UPM Legal Function is a global function with around 40 professionals assisting UPM's business areas and global functions in a variety of legal matters, including areas of contracts, corporate transactions, and financing, as well as corporate governance and compliance.

What you will do
- In this role, you will work with our Biofuels and Biochemicals business teams and their global stakeholders, who have ambitious growth plans to deliver decarbonisation solutions. A good cooperation requires combination of legal expertise with strong business acumen, project management skills and demonstrated influencing and negotiating capabilities
- Advance commercialisation of our renewable and sustainable products, solutions and valorisation of side streams with a legal skill set
- Work in a key position on complex global growth projects, both in the development and execution phases
- Provide strategic IP and commercial legal advice, draft, and negotiate technology-related agreements, including technology licensing
- Develop strategic partnerships, alliances, and support in M&A activities
- Handle disputes and litigation with third parties
- Contribute to team development and growth through mentoring, skill-building, and coaching other team members to ensure the highest quality legal services and compliance
Who you are
- You have a master's degree in law and approximately 7 to 10 years of legal work experience as in-house counsel or at a law firm
- Venturing into new areas is often demanding. Understanding and advancing commercial and strategic drivers is a key qualification for this position. You demonstrate ability to be a hands-on legal integrator and independently lead projects to completion while being comfortable presenting and explaining complex issues concisely to colleagues, management, and business partners with clear recommendations
- You are experienced working in a multinational environment, handling a wide variety of contracts. Proven industrial experience from chemicals, fuels, or green energy transitions is considered as a merit
- You are familiar with IP and patent law and comfortable working with technology agreements and transactions
- You also have experience with M&A, strategic alliances, and partnerships
- You create a positive, proactive culture that encourages high performance and on-time collaboration with a can-do attitude

The position is location in any UPM location in Europe depending on candidate profile and preferences. Readiness to travel regularly is needed.
